Season 1

Buffy walks down a dark street. Someone appears behind her. She senses it. When she gets a chance, she ducks down an alley. Angel comes into the alley. Buffy swings down from a bar, kicking him in the back. He tells her, "Don't worry, I don't bite." Angel tosses her a small box, telling her to get ready for the Harvest and he leaves. Buffy opens the box to find a silver cross on a chain. Buffy enters the Bronze, wearing the cross that Angel gave her.

Buffy and Angel are near her house, with the Three on their trail. Buffy gets the front door open. As she slams the door, it closes on one of the vampires' hands. Angel tells Buffy that vampires cannot enter unless they are invited. Buffy begins to bandage him, asking if he was following her. He tells her, "Maybe I like you." They smile at each other. Joyce enters the house. Buffy introduces Angel as her history tutor. Joyce recommends Angel to go home. Buffy, at the front door, pretends to say goodbye to Angel. They quietly head up to her room. Buffy enters her room, bringing Angel a bag of food. She notices her diary out of place and goes into a tirade, accusing Angel of invading her privacy. She lets him know that all the compliments she wrote about him were really insults. Angel tells Buffy that her mom moved the diary, not him. Angel abruptly tells her that he has to go, because when he's around her, he wants to kiss her. They kiss. Angel pulls back suddenly, and after a moment turns toward her again. His face is twisted into the form of a vampire. She screams. The next morning, the Scooby gang learns about Angel being a vampire. Buffy asks Giles if a vampire can ever be good. He tells her no, a vampire is a demon in the shell of a human frame.Darla knocks at the Summers house and introduces herself as a friend of Buffy's. Joyce invites her inside. Angel hears Joyce scream. He runs into house to see Darla biting Joyce. Darla shoves Joyce into Angel's arms to smell human blood, enticing him. Darla leaves. Buffy walks in and sees Angel holding her unconscious mother. At the hospital, Joyce tells Giles about Darla showing up. Giles puts two and two together and excuses himself so he can find Buffy before she kills the wrong vampire.At the Bronze, Buffy reaches the bottom of the stairs. Angel is in the shadows. Buffy calls him out. He faces her, wearing his vampiric face. She aims her crossbow at him. Angel tells Buffy his secret: a Gypsy curse was lain on him after he fed on the daughter of a Gypsy. The curse restored his human soul so thta he would feel eternal regret for all that he had done. Buffy aims the cross-bow at Darla, who pulls two pistols from behind her back, one in each hand, and shoots Angel. He's wounded. Angel stakes Darla. Buffy is speechless and watches Angel leave.At the Bronze, Willow tells Buffy that Angel is there. Willow watches as Buffy goes to Angel. They passionately kiss.
